Katerina's Moussaka
Rula's Kefalonian Meat Pie
|
|
Sadly with a growing number of tavernas employing professional chefs these days, many traditional Greek dishes and their recipes are being lost as they assume a more international identity. Tasty they may be, but not the original flavour of Greece. The objective here is to create some original Greek dishes as they are still prepared by Greek ladies in their own homes for their families. This section
will grow in time as more contibutions already promised are recieved. What we have here are personal recipes passed down through the generations, father/mother to son/daughter, so there is in truth no right way or wrong way to prepare a traditional Greek dish, only "their" way. |

Katerina

Katerina is a Director of the Pylaros Library and also the main Librarian there. An academic at heart, conversations with her are always interesting and stimulating. She can cover a wide range of subjects with a surprising knowledge gleaned from years of learning a comprehensive range of subjects and she is of course an avid reader of books!.
Katerina is an active member of the local community and whilst she maintains a home in Athens she spends much of her time in her home village of Makriotika, or down in Agia Efimia where she can often be found reading a book or in deep conversation with someone.
Her contribution for this section is her own receipe for Moussaka and I can assure you is absolutely delicious! Click here for her recipe.

Rula

An accomplished author in her own right Rula Moustakis has an amazing fund of knowledge on the history of the Pylaros Valley in general and Agia Efimia in particular. Published a couple of years back her book about the history of Agia Efimia contains many interesting facts and boasts a series of fascinating photographs not previosly published from her personal family albums. A rare collection of historical
memories and events in pictures. For instance, it was Rula's grandfather who owned the very first car in Kefalonia and she has the picture to prove it!
She can often be found at the reception desk of the family owned and run hotel in Agia Efimia. For us she took time out to prepare and write down her family recipe for the famous Kefalonian Meat Pie, click here for details and try it for yourself! (it is really delicious and yes I enjoyed every bite!!) |
